How to get to Oxford, by plane train and automobile.

For those of you who are not local to Oxford we have summarised a few ways of getting to Oxford itself as well as the various venues for the big day itself. Oxford is pretty central and well connected by Road and Rail so getting here shouldn't be too difficult.

The ceremony is at The Oratory Church, Oxford, also known as St. Aloysius Gonzaga which is in central Oxford. The reception is at Westwood Country Hotel which is about 3 miles southwest of Oxford City centre. We will be providing transport between the church and the reception so you may want to leave your car at the reception venue.

By Road

Oxford itself is easily reached by car but we advise against driving into the city centre as it is very busy and there are many one-way and pedestrianised streets to make life tricky for the non-local, and parking is hard to find. If you are going to be driving to Oxford we recommend you read the Parking page for more information.

The church is a ten minute walk from the centre of Oxford. There is no parking at the church. Roadside parking is available within 5 or 10 minutes walk but this is not easily found. The reception is about 3 miles southwest of Oxford City centre, just outside the ring road.

By Rail

Oxford is well connected by rail, and has regular services from the likes of Paddington and Birmingham, being about 1 and 1.5 hours away respectively. Call +44 (0) 845 748 4950 or go to The Trainline site for train information.

The church is a 20 minute walk from the train station or a 5 minute taxi ride away. For those going directly to the reception, it is about an hours walk (not recommended as you would have to cross an A-road) or a 20 minute taxi ride away.

By Air

The most convenient airports for Oxford are London Heathrow, Birmingham or Southampton, all of which are between 1 and 1.5 hours away.

Heathrow is about 1 hour away by bus or taxi, with a fantastic bus service direct to Oxford City Centre every 20 minutes. The bus costs £17 for a return ticket. Call +44 (0) 1865 785 400 or go to The Airline site for bus information.

Birmingham has a direct rail link from Birmingham International station to Oxford, which takes about 1.5 hours. Southampton also has a direct rail link, from Southampton Parkway station to Oxford, which takes about 1.5 hours. The train costs about £20 for a return ticket. Call +44 (0) 845 748 4950 or go to The Trainline for train information.

All three airports are fairly well situated as far as driving to Oxford is concerned as well, Heathrow and Birmingham are a little more difficult due to weight of traffic local to the airports.

Both Luton and Stansted are viable alternatives, but neither have as good links to Oxford.

If there are a number of people travelling together then it may be better value to hire a car or to book a minibus taxi to transfer you to and from the airport.
